Before You Calculate Speeds and Feeds

Gather the inputs that make a cutting-data calculation useful for your actual setup.

Start with the specific tool

Use the recommended cutting data for the actual tool, coating and workpiece grade. A generic calculator cannot account for every combination.

Record the engagement

Document axial and radial depth, operation type and coolant delivery. Distinguish a full-width slot from a light finishing pass when discussing the application.

Check machine and setup limits

Confirm spindle-speed, feed and power limits, along with tool holding and workholding. Check that the proposed settings fit the machine and tooling requirements.

Use the result as a starting point

Compare calculated values with the tool supplier’s guidance and your established process. Record the tool, material and results so later adjustments are traceable.

Discuss your application
